I learned with sadness, the sinking of a makeshift canoe on the Nyong River, in the Malombo village, in the Nyong-et-Kelle division, leading to the death of ten people. How this drama happened is still to be established.

On behalf of the members and sympathizers of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) and in my own name, I extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims.

This tragedy, which is unfortunately recurrent in the rainy season, poses the problem of land use planning and basic infrastructure in our country. Public authorities should not wait for the next rains and new tragedies to build these essential basic infrastructures, particularly in rural areas, to make life easier for the populations and promote economic development in these often forgotten areas.
